Symposium 2016

Impressions from an extraordinary event
Many well-known opinion leaders gathered at Merck in Darmstadt for the Displaying Futures Symposium in September 2016. Among them were automobile expert Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, the globally renowned futurologists Thimon de Jong and Aric Dromi, as well as the designer Miriam van der Lubbe. What will cars look like in ten years from now and how will we use them? That was the topic of intense discussion. For Merck it is an important subject, since our technologies can play a major role.
Our Concept Car
Inspired by our broad portfolio and activities for the automotive industry, we decided to design our own concept car. Influenced by historical classics our car glides like an airship, elegant like a historical carriages but equipped with all features and technologies addressing future mobility challenges. Packed in an athletic and innovative body our concept car shows how we can support breakthrough innovation in the automotive industry.
As our cities are growing bigger and bigger and our environment is becoming smarter, our mobility needs are changing. Car manufacturers are developing autonomous vehicles, while other innovations in mobility are already hitting the road, such as car sharing, car pooling and taxi alternatives. The car of the future will be connected to communicate with other vehicles and with an increasingly intelligent roadway infrastructure. We have invited and teamed up great minds from different fields to give an insight into their perspective of our prospective future.
